Volvo Cars and the Volvo Group

The Volvo name can trace its origins as far back as 1915, at ball bearing manufacturer SKF. The first Volvo rolled off the production line in Gothenburg way back in 1927 and since then, we’ve gone from strength to strength, creating world-changing innovations along the way.

Volvo Car Group produces a premium range of cars that includes sedans, wagons, sportswagons, cross country cars and SUVs.

We’re also a global brand with manufacturing in Sweden, Belgium and China.
Volvo Car Group (Volvo Cars) is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding (Geely Holding) of China.

Our vision and mission

“Cars are driven by people. The guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo, therefore, is – and must remain – safety”.
Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, Volvo’s founder, 1927.

For over 80 years, people have remained the true purpose and inspiration for everything we do at Volvo; focus on people and ensuring the safety, quality and sustainability of the environment in which people live. This not only includes our customers, but naturally Volvo people employed around the globe. Our people, which make up our Volvo Culture.

We are people that create cars for people.

Our success lies in being truly passionate for our customers and cars, while moving fast and aiming higher than ever before. Individual commitment to role-modelling our values and behaviours will make the difference for our company. Daring to challenge and accept challenges, yet never compromising the respect we have for one another symbolises our diverse and human centric philosophy.

Our employees are our most valuable resource.

Volvo Cars wants all employees to have equal opportunities based on competence, experience and performance, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, political opinion, union affiliation, social background.

It is Volvo Cars’ responsibility to ensure that we provide a sustainable working environment with fair terms of employment for all our employees.

Volvo Cars shall offer and maintain a safe and sound working environment that meets or exceeds current standards and legislation globally. A safe and healthy workplace is not only about preventing accidents, it involves both physical and psychosocial aspects. We prioritise production processes, product design, and working methods, as well as facilities, that reduce the negative impact on the individual. Safety must always be the most important factor in decisions.

One of our business objectives for 2020 is to be a global employer of choice. To be that attractive global employer, we must develop our Volvo Culture and inspire change along the way!
